    CAMP NOU
Improvements and Renovations

Since the day it was opened, the Camp Nou has been improving day by day and it has adapted itself to the passing of time. Over the years the Club has renewed different areas of the installations and the surroundings, new areas have been built and the stadium has been equipped with the latest technology. These are the renovations which the Camp Nou has gone through.

The Development of The Stadium

When it was opened, the Camp Nou could hold a capacity of 93,053 spectators (the former plan to hold 150,000 places had been abandoned) and the field of play measured 107x72 metres (currently 105x68, according to UEFA guidelines). The main materials used in its construction were concrete and iron. Since that now distant year of 1957, the stadium has undergone the following renovations and improvements.
Inauguration of floodlighting (September 23, 1959). The first floodlit game at the Camp Nou was a second   round European Cup match in the 1959-60 season, between FC Barcelona and CDNA Sofia

Enlargement of stadium. Coinciding with World Cup 1982, the stadium capacity was increased with the addition of 22,150 new places in the 3rd tier. This raised the Camp Nou's capacity to 115,000
Inauguration of Club Museum. 2nd tier (September 24, 1984)

New building for the Former Players Association. 1st tier grandstand (1990-91 season)
Remodelling of the first tier of terracing. This work, undertaken over the summer of 1994, lowered the field of play by 2.5 metres to increase the capacity of the lower tiers. Seating was introduced in the areas behind the goals and the security moat around the field was eliminated
Wembley and Basle lounges. 1st tier grandstand (1994-95 season). Two 250 m2 lounges that are used by members of the Fundació FC Barcelona on match days
New press boxes. 3rd tier grandstand (1994-95 season)
Renovation of the Grandstand roof. 3rd tier grandstand (1994-95 season)
Construction of row 0. Work was carried out over the summer of 1994 on the construction of row 0 in the 2nd tier of the Side, North goal and South goal areas, which was the continuation of the Grandstand row 0 built in the summer of 1993

The facade was redesigned with the inscriptions of the names of all of the players in the club's history.
